Description
Treatex Eco colours is the first in what we hope will be a growing collection of finishes designed to comply with increasingly stringent criteria relating to solvents and harmful VOC’s in wood finishes. Treatex Eco Colours is a high quality, environmentally friendly and weather resistant water based paint containing refined natural oils and resins extracted from renewable sources. This microporous, water repellent finish offers long term protection against UV rays from the sun and has undergone extensive testing in some of the most extreme climates around the world.
We continually strive to improve all aspects of the products we sell, not only from a performance perspective, but ecologically as well. Working closely with our chemists, we have been able to develop a solvent free (max. 5g/L VOC) product capable of dealing with the particular quirks our British weather likes to throw at us! Eco Colours are suitable to use with professional and DIY painters alike as well as being compatible with industrial coating machines.
Using a high quality binder that is capable of combining oil and water based ingredients together, we have produced a finish that achieves excellent adhesion to most timber surfaces whilst still delivering a easy to use, fast drying and exceptionally durable surface.
Being odourless, this product is suitable for both interior and exterior use and is suitable for many purposes including children’s toys, pet houses, beehives , pet cages and hutches, doors, windows, sheds, cladding, kitchen cabinets and furniture as well as any other internal or external joinery.
We have initially selected five contemporary (primary) colours to start with but these can be mixed together to create any colour you need.

Coverage:
1L covers approximately 12-15m² in one coat depending on the timber and method of application. Rough sawn timbers will increase consumption.
Preparation
Treatex Eco Colours works best on unfinished timber. Previous porous finishes should be thoroughly cleaned or lightly sanded before overcoating. Flaking or peeling finishes must be fully removed prior to application. A trial application is essential when overcoating another finish. Ensure the timber is dry and free from possible contaminates e.g. algae, grease, dirt, dust etc. To help prevent staining, exterior timbers with high tannin levels (e.g. oak, idigbo, teak, cedar, mahogany) should be treated with Treatex Stain Inhibitor. We advise that when using Treatex Eco colours, sufficient product is purchased to complete the whole project and when more than one tin is required it is advisable to mix them together before use. Timber must have a moisture content below 18%. Temperature must be between 8oc and 25oc and humidity should be below 65% during application and drying. We strongly recommend a trial application prior to starting the project.
Application
Stir (don’t shake) the tins thoroughly before and during use (note - the technology involved in producing this product means the appearance of the paint in the tin may be different to the colour identified on the front of the tin, however, once dry it will represent the swatch colour). Using a brush or roller, apply Treatex Eco colours evenly, with the grain. If possible, apply to all sides before an installation. Pay particular attention to any exposed end grain by applying sufficient produce to seal it. The finish will be touch dry after approximately 3 hours and can be over coated after 8 hours. Wet and cold weather or high humidity can increase the drying time. Treatex dries by oxidisation so providing adequate air flow is beneficial.
Apply 60-85ml/m² per coat. For internal use, 2 coats are sufficient. For external use, 3 coats will provide more protection
